ODI is a partner of the Education Research in Conflict and Protracted Crisis (ERICC) Research Programme Consortium. ERICC is a global research and learning partnership that strives to transform education policy and practice in conflict and protracted crisis around the world – ultimately to help improve holistic outcomes for children – through building a global hub for a rigorous, context-relevant and actionable evidence base. ERICC aims to bridge research, practice, and policy, by identifying the most effective approaches to supporting sustainable and coherent education systems, the co-construction of research, and collaborative partnerships at local, national, regional, and global levels.

The ERICC Research Programme Consortium is led by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) with Academic Lead IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society. Other expert partners in the ERICC Consortium include The Centre for Lebanese Studies, Common Heritage Foundation, Forcier Consulting, Osman Consulting, Oxford Policy Management and Queen Rania Foundation. During ERICC’s inception period, NYU-TIES provided research leadership, developed the original ERICC Conceptual Framework and contributed to early research agenda development. ERICC is supported by UK Aid.

ODI leads the conduct of Political Economy Analyses (PEAs) and research on Education in Emergencies financing, building on the policy advice provided during the project's inception phase. Insights from PEAs help shape ERICC country research agendas, formulate country-specific research uptake plans, and aim to improve coordination among government, humanitarian, and development stakeholders that are responding to education challenges in contexts of protracted crises.

Learn more about ERICC's approach to research, ERICC's leadership, and the programme's full research portfolio by visiting the ERICC website, which includes the ERICC Inception Report and latest country research. Political economy and (in)coherence of the education system in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh

ERICC Policy Brief: The Politics and (incoherence) of education in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh

This brief summarises the sources of education system (in)coherences in Cox’s Bazar, drawing out the links between sector operations and the key actors’ de facto incentives and capacities, and illustrates the value of understanding how these political economy drivers shape the contours of plausible reforms to improve education coherence in emergencies.
