This brief gives an overview of where poor people participate in Rwanda's business tourism and gorilla-viewing tourism. It outlines the value chain and rough estimates of earnings accruing to the poor, highlighting key factors that need to explore the extent of poor farmer participation in supplying food to Kigali hotels in order to qualify estimates of pro-poor impact of business tourism. The impact of gorilla-tourism varies by the business model of the lodge or hotel, and the components of the tourists' itinerary. It concludes with 6 areas for action by government and private sector stakeholders, ranging from work with private operators on inclusive business, enhanced access for poor farmers to hotel markets, and development of local tailor-made products for conference tourism.
