Nathaniel specialises in water, sanitation and climate change. He applies political economy analysis and other approaches to challenges of governance, finance and innovation in these areas.
Nathaniel worked as an ODI staff member from 2011 to 2018, latterly as a Senior Fellow, where he led numerous qualitative and quantitative studies for international agencies, NGOs and businesses. He has lived or worked in several countries in South and South East Asia, and in East, West and Southern Africa.
In addition to policy research, Nathaniel has considerable experience in monitoring and evaluation, and in facilitation. He acted as the M&E global focal point for a major water, sanitation and hygiene programme for several years, and has designed and led workshops for policy and practitioner audiences. He regularly presents at international meetings and conferences, and has guest lectured at Imperial College London since 2014.
Prior to joining ODI he worked as a consultant for the World Bank and for WaterAid.
