Calvin Laing

Programme Manager

Portrait of Calvin Laing

Calvin is the Programme Manager for Social Protection. See more below.

Calvin has been involved in international development since 2006. He first spent a year as Project Coordinator at a small, grass-roots charity in Tanzania. He then spent eight years at Plan UK in fundraising, programme/project development and management roles, working with a number of countries in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa – particularly East Africa. Calvin travelled frequently in these roles, and spent two months in Sierra Leone supporting the Ebola response. He has worked particularly extensively on projects aiming to tackle gender inequality, promote improved governance (including children’s participation in governance processes), and strengthen livelihood opportunities for young women and men. He has experience working in complex, multi-stakeholder partnerships and with a wide range of donors (institutional, corporate, trusts and high-net-worth individuals). Calvin has a master’s degree in Environment and Development and a big interest in gender equality, having been a gender focal point at Plan, responsible for supporting UK and overseas colleagues to embed tackling gender inequality across programmes and monitoring the implementation of the organisation’s Gender Action Plan.
