This paper sets out the range of policy options available to national governments wishing to reduce inequality in the form of income disparities. It makes a case for action to reduce income inequality and distinguishes between static and dynamic forms of redistribution. It goes on to consider the political viability of measures designed to tackle income inquality and concludes that while none are new and not all have been successful, there is nevertheless a case to be made trying to reduce inequality.
