Muriel joined ODI in January 2016 to lead the GAGE programme’s monitoring and evaluation approach, and learning initiatives – all of which she is designing with participatory and empowerment principles in mind. She is passionate about inclusion and empowerment; intersectionality and difference; human rights and gender equality.

Muriel joined ODI in January 2016 to lead the GAGE programme’s monitoring and evaluation approach, and learning initiatives – all of which she is designing with participatory and empowerment principles in mind. She is passionate about inclusion and empowerment; intersectionality and difference; human rights and gender equality.
Prior to joining ODI, she worked at The Young Foundation in London, leading its first ever foray into gender programming. Before that she worked in the Policy Division of UN Women in New York, where she focused on issues of youth empowerment and voice and agency. Whilst at the UN, she was active in the Inter Agency Network on Youth Development (UN IANYD), leading her agency’s contribution to the Secretary General’s System Wide Action Plan on Youth (Youth SWAP). She’s also worked in the UK Parliament (on gender), and conflict transformation initiatives in Palestine, through an NGO she co-funded alongside a group of other young volunteers in 2003.
She holds a PhD in Government and Gender; an MSc in Political Theory and a BSc (Hons) in Sociology – all from the London School of Economics.
