The objectives of the two-day meeting in London are:

1. To revive evidence-based socio-economic research in Nigeria related to maximising pro-poor growth and linked directly to policy initiatives approaches, by bringing together practitioners from Nigeria and Europe and creating the potential for extended partnerships;
2. To assess the state of the Nigerian research community in this respect;
3. To draw attention to the importance of Nigeria, both within Africa and the world economy and highlight the lacunae which permit policies to be drawn up without reference to an empirical base;
4. To develop recommendations for the way forward.
