Disasters and conflict in a changing climate

Explainer

In the coming years, the development environment will be characterised by a political discourse increasingly concerned with interconnected risk. Already, manifestations of compound risk are being vocalised at the highest levels of international cooperation.

The causes of crises are deeply interlinked with the underlying drivers of conflict, weak governance and climate change. Yet the policy, programming and funding architecture for risk management is deeply fragmented.

Our work redresses the nexus of disasters, climate change and conflict to achieve resilience and the objectives of Agenda 2030. We aim to tackle the conflict blind-spot in climate change adaptation and integrate Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) as a core component of the prevention agenda.
