Professor Dominic McVey is an award-winning business leader, entrepreneur and philanthropist.
By the age of 15, his business importing foldable micro-scooters from the United States made him Britain’s youngest self-made millionaire. At 18, he was recognised as a ‘Pioneer for Britain in Entrepreneurism’ by Her Majesty The Queen. In 2009, he was named one of Britain’s most influential businesspeople under 30 in The Sunday Times.
Dominic now has a portfolio of multi-national business interests, spanning manufacturing, technology, cosmetics and management consultancy. He is an outspoken and committed advocate for increasing equitable trade with developing countries and promoting sustainable foreign direct investment into African countries.
Until recently he was Chairman of Hela Clothing and driving force behind this award-winning Sri Lankan garment manufacturer, which is widely recognised for its sustainable and ethical practices. Today, Hela generates almost $200 million in revenue employing 15,000 people directly in Ethiopia, Kenyan and Sri Lanka. He also sits on the Board of Ethical Apparel Africa, an apparel manufacturing and sourcing company focused on sustainable job creation in West Africa.
Reflecting his experience in promoting and encouraging sustainable economic development, he was recently appointed as Professor of Practice at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD).
Dominic is the Chairman of Computer Aid International and a member of the Advisory Council for the Coalition for Global Prosperity. He is also an ambassador for the HALO Trust, the world’s largest de-mining company.
In 2022, Dominic received an MBE in the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Honours, in recognition of his services to private sector development in the continent of Africa.
