Caterina Mazzilli is a Research Officer on migration in the Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG) at ODI. Caterina’s work focuses on migration decision-making, migration policies, social protection for migrants and in contexts of displacement, the links between migration and development, and the analysis of social protection programmes and policies.

Within HPG, Caterina currently works on several projects on migration and development, such as the GCRF UKRI and Irish Aid-funded MIDEQ – Migration for Development and Equality and the European Commission-funded MIGNEX – Aligning Migration Management and the Migration-Development Nexus.

Prior to joining ODI, Caterina worked in academia: she conducted her post-doc at Queen Mary University of London between 2019 and 2021 and, in 2019, she completed her PhD in Migration Studies at the University of Sussex. Her doctoral research explored public narratives of receptiveness toward migrants and ethnic minorities in the cities of Brighton, UK and Bologna, Italy. She also worked as an independent consultant for NGOs and IOs. She has published several journal articles, book chapters, blog posts, and reports on various topics in the field of migration.
