The Productive Potential of Ancient Oak-Coppice Woodland in Britain

Research reports

Oak coppice forms a significant proportion of woodlands in the UK. This short paper noted that most stands of oak coppice were not actively managed, due to high opportunity costs and depressed prices for low-grade timber. The author considered the full range of management options and recommended that small-scale enterprises could focus on extraction of non-timber forest products, especially charcoal.
