This study looks at the different views of dependency in Ethiopia. It outlines the main ways in which dependency is discussed in the Ethiopian context; summarises government institutions and policies pertaining to relief assistance; discusses dependency in the aid system; and analyses the local political economy of relief. The concluding section explores the significance of the many ways in which dependency is understood, and the lasting impact of a discourse on dependency on relief aid policy and programming.
