In 2008-9, POGO members teamed up with staff of The Policy Practice to contribute ideas and draft text to the DFID team preparing a ‘How To Note’ on Political Economy Analysis. The HTN was published, and launched with our support, in 2009. It provides an accessible introduction to the way DFID’s earlier concept of Drivers of Change analysis has evolved into a broader instrument, permitting a set of analytical tools to be used for various purposes at a variety of operational levels. It provides examples of how political-economy insights have influenced DFID operations and some guidance on how to undertake or commission this type of work.
