The two articles in this paper, one from the Sadguru Water and Development Foundation, a local NGO, and one from a government perspective, discussed the history of centralised and decentralised nurseries in Gujarat, India. Providing a thorough checklist of the advantages and disadvantages of both types of nursery, Jagawat concluded that the most appropriate type would depend on local circumstances (e.g. centralised nurseries make more sense in drier areas) and should be determined by local users. Verma explained the Gujarat Forest Department's recent trend away from supplying large numbers of seedlings towards supporting decentralised nurseries, which are better at meeting farmers' demands and can provide a valuable source of local income.
