This book analyses changes which have taken place in the management of natural resources and the supply of agricultural services over the past decade or more. It identifies the problems which stimulated calls for change and analyses the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to solving these problems. The book draws on research in Asia, Latin America and Africa and addresses concerns relating to forest resources, pastoral resources, water resources and agricultural services notably research and extension. It concludes that only multi-agency approaches which draw on the skills of a range of different types of organisations to meet the needs of different resource users are likely to be successful in improving the efficiency, effectiveness and accountability of resource management.
