This paper was originally commissioned by the German Development Institute so as to inform the development of German development cooperation policy towards human rights. It is based on a few interviews and document reviews. It should not be considered to be a thorough analysis and evaluation of the impact of the approach on DFID’s policies, dialogue and programmes. Rather, it aims to identify some of the lessons that can be learned from DFID’s experience and comment on challenges currently facing DFID.
