Construction in overseas development: a search for appropriate aid and trade measures for the 1970s

Book/book chapter

Construction activity plays a fundamental role in development. It is only second to agriculture in developing countries and it is also a very important employer.

The challenge for developing countries is to achieve large public construction programmes without the necessary know-how and lack of capital. That notwithstanding, the issue receives little attention in trade and aid policy.

The author argues that the experience and position of British builders puts them in a strategic position to help developing countries.
