Conflict and Transnational Crime: borders, bullets & business in Southeast Asia

Book/book chapter

Written by Florian Weigand

Book/book chapter

This book explores the links between armed conflict and transnational crime, it builds on in-depth empirical research into some of Southeast Asia’s murkiest borders.

Conflict and Transnational Crime: borders, bullets & business in Southeast Asia dives into four conflict-affected border areas, including the Myanmar-China border, the Myanmar-Bangladesh border, the Thailand-Malaysia border and the maritime Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines border. In each area, Florian Weigand analyses the interactions of different forms of smuggling with armed conflict, using the disparate voices of drug traffickers, rebel fighters, government officials and victims of armed conflict. This book explores perspectives that have been previously disregarded in understanding the field.
