<p>Simone Haysom is a Research Associate based in South Africa. She specializes in rapid urbanisation, migration, and displacement, as well as humanitarian assistance and the politics of access and distinction in conflict.</p>

Between 2010 and 2013 she was a researcher at HPG/ODI, with primary responsibility for a multiyear project on urban displacement and how the humanitarian system could respond to its challenges. Her work has been published in Disasters, Stability, the Journal of African Studies, Humanitarian Exchange, Africa in Fact and various print and electronic news sources. She is currently a recipient of a Miles Morland Fellowship, working on a book of reportage about urban violence and policing in Cape Town. She holds a BA from the University of Cape Town and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge.
