Portrait of Pablo Yanguas

Pablo Yanguas is an expert on adaptive, politically-smart, and learning-oriented approaches to governance support. As a consultant, Pablo has specialised in providing strategic advice to smart anti-corruption programmes in sub-Saharan Africa that work with government and civil society. As a researcher, he led comparative projects at the University of Manchester on public sector reform and on donor use of political economy analysis. Key research findings and lessons from experience were synthesized in his book, Why We Lie About Aid: Development and the Messy Politics of Change (Zed Books, 2018), which influenced DFID’s 2019 Position Paper on Governance. Pablo holds a PhD in Government from Cornell University.
