Nigel is a Senior Research Associate at ODI and principal consultant on the Lessons for Peace programme (Afghanistan).

Nigel worked for Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), the Britain-Nepal Medical Trust and Save the Children before joining the World Bank as an agricultural economist. He was World Bank Country Director for the West Bank & Gaza and for the Pacific Islands, and Director of the 2011 World Development Report on Conflict, Security and Development. Since retiring in 2011 he has been advising donors and governments in conflict-affected countries.
