Miren's interests are on data activism, or how data infrastructure can be utilized for social change in development, climate change and environmental issues. She also advises the Climate and Knowledge Development Network (CDKN), and is a Research Associate at Datactive, Amsterdam. She is the director of the Executive Programme "Data analysis, research and communication" and a Professor of Communication at the University of Deusto. She holds a PhD in Communication Sciences.

Miren has been the Executive Director of Greenpeace Spain, Inter Press Service Editor in Chief, and a journalist based in Hong Kong, Panama, New York and Rome, writing and researching for El Mundo, El País, The Nation, Wall Street Journal, UPI and Transparency International.
