Michai Robertson is a Research Fellow within the Climate and Sustainable Programme at ODI. He is an experienced specialist and practitioner in national and international environmental law, policy and governance. The main focus of his work is on finance and financial systems especially in the thematic areas of climate change, ocean governance, and biodiversity. Currently, he is primarily involved with ODI’s work on sustainable finance and financial systems including climate finance, biodiversity finance and ocean finance, and with its Resilience and Small Island States Initiative.

Previously, Michai served as a Policy Officer within the Department of Environment of Antigua and Barbuda. In this post, he was responsible for international and domestic environmental law and policy matters that includes climate finance, and loss and damage, and acted as a primary Focal Point for the Department to the Green Climate Fund in its role as a direct access Accredited Entity. He has also served as a Senior Advisor (Finance) for the Alliance of Small Island States ('AOSIS'), a Lead Negotiator on Climate Finance for AOSIS, SIDS Board Member of the Adaptation Fund, Advisor to the SIDS Board Seat of the Green Climate Fund, an Alternate Member for the Latin America and Caribbean region on the Paris Agreement Implementation and Compliance Committee, as well as Advisor to the SIDS Members of the UNFCCC's Transitional Committee for the Loss and Damage Fund and Funding Arrangement.

He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Environmental Law and Policy from University College London, and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Oxford Brookes University.
