Prior to joining ODI in March 2021, Marta was a Manager at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue working across Strong Cities Network (SCN) international projects. She delivered analysis and advice on local responses to hate, polarisation and extremism through research and member engagement, and led cities programming in Sub-Saharan Africa. Before ISD, Marta completed a traineeship with the Humanitarian Policy section at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. In previous positions she worked in several countries across Asia, in the US and in South Africa. Marta holds an MA in Conflict, Governance and International Development from the University of East Anglia. She is a native French and Portuguese speaker and is also comfortable working in Spanish and German.
