Maria Quattri

Maria is an applied agricultural economist, having researched agricultural markets, trade and institutions in Ethiopia during her PhD in Economics at the University of Manchester. She is an external Associate at the Brooks World Poverty Institute (BWPI), and has fieldwork experience in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda.

Maria joined ODI as Research Officer supporting the Executive Director in 2013.

An applied agricultural economist, she researched on agricultural markets, trade and institutions in Ethiopia during her PhD in Economics at the University of Manchester.

Upon graduation, she conducted impact assessment for the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI), and collaborated with the World Bank, Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) on scaling up rural sanitation in Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia. For WSP, Maria worked as a knowledge product consultant and provided evidence on the impact of (lack of) sanitation on stunting.

She investigated neglected tropical diseased and foreign debt sustainability at the United Nations University – World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER), and researched on linking renewable energy to sustainable community development for the ‘Universal Sustainable Habitat Development (USHD)’ project at Durham University.

Maria holds an MA in Cooperation and Development at the Institute for Advanced Study (IUSS, Pavia) and an MSc in Development Economics and Policy at the Institute for Development Policy and Management (IDPM, Manchester). For her MA dissertation, she analysed primary survey data on the state of the labour market in Addis Ababa.

She is an external Associate at the Brooks World Poverty Institute (BWPI), and has fieldwork experience in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda. She lived throughout Ethiopia, where she worked on technical and vocational education and training for an international non-governmental organization.
