Maria Ana Jalles d'Orey

<p>Maria Ana (PhD) is a Portuguese national with several years of international experiences in research, teaching and project management with periods of work abroad in Brazil, Mozambique, India, Sri Lanka and Portugal. Maria Ana&rsquo;s main research interests include aid effectiveness, development finance and the role of development actors, and the evaluation and impact of development policies, programmes and interventions. Thematically, she has a special interest in aid for health. She has expertise in mixed methods research, applied econometrics, rigorous evaluation and impact assessments, country case studies, systematic reviews and meta-analyses.&nbsp; Maria Ana has a background in management and economics and holds a PhD in International Development with a focus on aid effectiveness.</p>

Before joining ODI, Maria Ana was a Senior Research Associate at the International Development UEA Centre working on two projects for DFID on policies impacting income poverty, inequality and growth. She lectured at the School of International Development, University of East Anglia (UK) and also at Nova School of Business and Economics (Portugal), where she taught a variety of modules in management, economics, international development and research methods.

Maria Ana holds a Bachelor and Master Degree in Management from the Nova School of Business and Economics (Portugal), and a Master of Research and PhD in International Development & Development Economics from the University of East Anglia (UK). Maria Ana’s PhD thesis focused on aid impact and effectiveness in the health sector in Mozambique with a particular emphasis on development agencies’ aid allocation decisions and strategic interactions in-country. She speaks fluent Portuguese and English and has a working knowledge of French and Spanish.
