Portrait of Lena Nur

Lena is a Research Associate in ODI’s Global Risks and Resilience programme, working primarily on disaster risk management and financing. She has experience in researching and informing financial instruments and delivery mechanisms at micro, meso and sovereign levels. This includes approaches – such as parametric insurance, adaptive social protection, or anticipatory action – that link climate and weather information with rapid availability of funding to enable timely action.

A further focus of Lena’s work is on financial inclusion and the role of financial services for enhancing resilience to climate change and disasters.

Lena holds a MSc in International Development Studies from the University of Amsterdam and a BA in Political Science with a minor in Economics from the University of Mannheim.

She has also worked as a Consultant for the Munich Climate Insurance Initiative (MCII) hosted at the UN University’s Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), for Kimetrica, and as a Research Assistant for the German Institute for Human Rights on various topics including disaster risk knowledge platforms, sovereign risk pooling mechanisms, contingency planning, and food security.
