Iain Steel is an independent economics and strategy consultant. He currently advises the government of Liberia on negotiating contracts for natural resource concessions and the taxation of natural resource companies.
Before he became an independent consultant, Iain was a senior policy adviser for the UK government at HM Treasury. He coordinated the development of tax and spend policy during the global financial crisis as head of budget policy coordination. He also led several project teams on ministerial priorities including reforming the welfare system, assessing the economic impact of Scottish independence, and designing a new policy to support families with the cost of childcare.
