Orlando Bloom has today backed research by London-based think tank the Overseas Development Institute highlighting the need for a global fund specifically for educating children forced out of school by war and other crises.
Speaking in Kiev, Ukraine, the Pirates of the Caribbean star backed the plan which has been taken up by UNICEF – the United Nations’ children’s charity.
Bloom has visited schools in the disputed eastern region of the former Soviet country.
Kevin Watkins, Executive Director of the Overseas Development Institute and an education expert, said: 'This is a chance for world leaders to act together to restore the hope and life chances that come with education, and to expand opportunities for the millions of children kept out of school by wars and other emergencies.'
