Why Donor Support to Civil Society Matters – Now!
Description
National and international NGOs jointly reflected on partner roles and relations in the aid architecture as part of an action research programme. A key message is that a strong and resilient civil society will be better able to weather the various crises South Sudan is facing, as well as hold the government and international actors to account.
In these times of crises and competing priorities, donors are reconsidering priorities. Some ask themselves: ‘When is the right time to support civil society?’ The answer is: NOW!
This event launched a new learning brief ‘Fragile relationships – building a strong and resilient civil society in South Sudan’. Sara Pantuliano (ODI/HPG) and Johan te Velde (PSO) spoke at the event.
