Following the launch of Stemming Girls Chronic Poverty, a report that applies the Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI) to chronic poverty issues, this workshop will convene gender experts, statisticians, policymakers and practitioners working on gender inequality and development. This workshop is the starting point for a longer process of reassessing SIGI to be undertaken during 2011, involving further workshops and the establishment of an External Advisory Board.

This initial workshop will be co-organised by the OECD Development Centre and ODI and will introduce the index, raise some key conceptual issues and identify areas for further analysis. A key outcome of the workshop will be a roadmap for reassessing SIGI over the next 12 months, with a view to strengthening the conceptual and methodological basis of the index and feeding into the national piloting process that will also be launched in 2011.
