Description

As the international development community gathers for the World Bank/IMF Annual Meetings, ODI is holding a roundtable event for our major new report ‘Global development trends and challenges: horizon 2025 revisited’.

The report maps out global trends, highlights old and new development challenges and identifies what actions donors can take to mitigate the risks. It analyses the major forces that will shape the future of development cooperation, including:

  • a pronounced slowdown in global poverty reduction, after a long period of positive trends;

  • the surge of migrants and refugees from conflict, and its lasting impact on development assistance and public support for aid;

  • the prospects for a changed role for the business community;

  • the continued pressure to act on climate change, but slow funding response to it;

  • China’s ‘big push’ on development, which traditional donors have yet to engage with.

Join us for an overview of the report’s findings and recommendations followed by an informal discussion on how aid agencies can meet the challenges of the new era. Lunch and light refreshments will be available.
