​As countries around the world gear up to the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) Sendai, Japan, many important questions remain on the makeup and coordination of a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction. How climate change will feature in a post-Hyogo framework is one such question, with considerable implications for how international action on both DRR and climate change adaptation is to be funded and operationalised. To date, criticisms have been raised that the draft falls short in addressing climate change and its implications for changing disaster risk profiles; but there are also elements of the draft text that should be celebrated.

This ODI event brings together insightful and provocative speakers to assess the current state of play. Short opinionated arguments from the panel will be followed by an interactive public discussion. The aim of the lunchtime event is to galvanise momentum ahead of Sendai, identifying constructive ways forward to be considered by governments, civil society groups and businesses.
