While significant political attention is paid to the concept of direct access to climate finance, there is a pressing need to undertake a thorough substantive and technical assessment of what it means and how it can be put to work at the scale required in the context of climate change.

ODI and UNDP's Environment and Energy Group jointly convened this workshop to lay the foundation for a more coordinated and systematic research agenda on direct access, including through the sharing of practical lessons learned.

Its aim was to bring about together a community of practice working on direct access, share key lessons learned to date, and begin to scope both the further research and also critically the national capacity development required to scale up direct access in the future.
