Synthesis study on politics and poverty reduction strategies in Latin America
Study to enable donors to better support country ownership and effectiveness of PRSs through better understanding and engagement with formal and informal political actors and processes. Produced practical recommendations to donors on ways they can strengthen country ownership and the effectiveness of PRSs in Latin America and the Caribbean by engaging with both formal and informal political processes and political actors. The recommendations were based upon experiences from two countries - Bolivia and Nicaragua. The PRS and politics study reviewed and existing research and analysis of politics and PRSs and pro-poor change in Latin America. The existing research includes an ODI study on PRS and politics and work carried out by NDI on political parties. Both provide useful background and analysis on some of the constraints faced in engaging with both PRS processes and political actors.
