The Government of Norway has made the inclusion of a REDD-mechanism in a post-2012 climate change regime a policy priority in the UNFCCC process.

Against this background, the Government of Norway has commissioned the Meridian Institute to facilitate a process to provide pragmatic, expert assessment of a set of proposed options for critical elements of the REDD component of a post-2012 UNFCCC agreement. The process is intended to conclude in March 2009, and will comprise of analysis, assessment, and recommendations on the basis of evaluative criteria developed around core principles of political acceptability, effectiveness, efficiency, and equity.

ODI is a member of a small team of expert analysts to conduct the analysis of proposed options for critical elements of the REDD component of a post-2012 UNFCCC agreement.
