HIV Vulnerabilities of Undocumented Migrants

With the support of UNAIDS funds, IOM and the Overseas Development Institute are collaborating on a study of HIV Vulnerabilities of Undocumented Migrants in Humanitarian Emergencies. The objective of this study is to assess HIV vulnerabilities and service needs among migrants in select humanitarian emergencies, focusing specifically on the situation of undocumented and irregular migrants. The first phase of the study is the literature review, followed by a number of country case studies – Burmese migrants in Thailand; Sudanese in Egypt; Somalis in Kenya; and Zimbabweans in South Africa. Country field studies will take place in Thailand, Egypt and Kenya; since considerable data already exists on Zimbabweans in South Africa, fieldwork will not be carried out there but instead, a desk review document will be produced on Zimbabwe.
