European development policy and climate change
This project is part of a European wide consortium aiming to improve EU policy-makers and other societal sectors' shared understanding of emerging challenges facing EU development policy and external action. In particular, ODI is the lead research organisation on the Climate Change work package, which aims to identify the drivers of and approaches to climate change and development policy processes in Europe and how these effect Europe and developing countries. The work package aims to achieve ‘foresight' through the following process:
- Through initial ‘horizontal scanning' of the development and climate change fields over the next 12 years.
- By identifying some of the main drivers of climate change and development policy making, and the trade-offs between these areas in general, and in the EU
- Using the understanding of these drivers and trade-offs in country level scenario exercises to examine possible impacts of different European policy trajectories in the future.
