Data-Pop: big data and people

Data-Pop is a ‘think-&-do’ global alliance on big data and development jointly created by the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI), the MIT Media Lab and the Overseas Development Institute.

The network aims to promote a popular 'big data revolution' to foster human development and social progress, enhancing the potential for using big data to fill data gaps, empower people and build accountability.

Its key strategic objective is to ensure that the data and tools emerging from the big data revolution serve the interests of people across the globe, especially those of poor and vulnerable populations, by empowering them to use big data to improve decision-making processes and political structures.

Thematic areas of focus include official statistics, socio-economic and demographic methods, conflict and crime, climate change and environmental stress, and data literacy and ethics.
