Coordinating education in crises
Education is a central need for the more than 75 million children and young people affected by emergencies and protracted crises across the developing world. Systematic organisation of the multiple actors contributing to education activities can, in principle, allow for more efficient, cost effective and successful operations.
ODI’s research presents an analysis of formal coordination approaches for education planning in response to emergencies and protracted crises, including Education Clusters, Refugee Education Working Groups and Local Education Groups, drawing on global information and evidence. It further sets out a framework for analysis which will then be applied to six country case studies.
This research was commissioned by a partnership consisting of the Global Education Cluster, the Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, with funding from Education Cannot Wait.
