The study aims to provide non-partisan advice to the IDMGb on the relative importance of the bushmeat trade in relation to:

• global diversity loss;
• efforts to conserve and sustainably use biodiversity;
• the UK's international commitments; and
• the alleviation of poverty and hunger.
  

It responds to a request from Ministers in the Inter-Departmental Ministerial group on Biodiversity (IDMGb) to inform their discussions relating to HMG policy on the 'bushmeat trade'.
