Report on the OECD’s interim report on ‘Agricultural Policy Design in Developing Countries’ by: Reviewing empirical evidence on the links between the composition of economic growth and the pace of poverty reduction; discussing the types of farm structures that are likely to emerge as an economy develops and the implications for household-level adjustment; rationales for the use of input subsidies, including both short-term and long-term arguments; reviewing the historical performance of input subsidies; and considering how the new generation of so-called “smart subsidies” differ from earlier forms of input subsidies and report recent evidence on their performance
