African Union Study on Modalities for Agricultural Trade Liberalisation

Assistance to Africa's Preparation for Cancun: Agricultural Negotiations Modalities for ILEAP. The objective of the proposed research was to provide analysis of some of the proposals of the agricultural negotiations modalities text of March 2003 in order to provide assistance to Africa's preparation for the Cancun Ministerial Meeting and recommendations on options that would promote Africa's interests. The work focused on defining 'special products' that African countries could defend in the current negotiations and on examining the magnitude of any preference erosion effects.

Analysis carried out for Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda. ODI supervised in-country analysis on the agricultural negotiations in Nigeria and Ghana.
